Lightning Filter: Turn Your Photo Into a Lightning Eyes Video
This lightning filter turns one photo of you into a short video in which your eyes start to glow and blue lightning crackles over your head and shoulders. You make it in the Ginly AI app with the Thunder God effect, and unlike a camera lens it works from a photo you already have.
- In the app: Thunder God
- Available on: iPhone, iPad and Android
What happens in the video
The preview opens on a young man in a black leather jacket and dark scarf, standing still on a city street with parked cars blurred behind him. First his eyes light up a bright white-blue. Thin bolts then crackle out of his eyes and up through his hair, and a flash arcs across the sky beside him. Soon blue lightning runs down over his shoulders, throwing cold light across the leather. By the end, bolts wrap around his whole upper body and flicker in the sky behind him, while he holds a calm, steady stare.
How to make it with Ginly AI
- Open Ginly AI (get it for iPhone or Android) and switch to the Effects tab.
- Choose Superhero Power Effects, then tap Thunder God for the lightning look, or Ninja Shadow Clone for glowing copies of yourself.
- Add a photo in which your eyes are clearly visible, crop it and tap Generate.
- Open the Library to watch the result, then keep it with Download or post it with Share.
Tips for the best result
- Show your eyes clearly, with no sunglasses or hair across them; the glow starts in the eyes before anything else happens.
- Crop from the chest up so your head and both shoulders are in the frame, which is where the bolts travel in the preview.
- Dark clothing and a dull or evening background give the blue lightning more contrast, like the black jacket and gray street in the sample.
- A calm, serious expression matches the mood of the effect; a grin works too but reads as more playful.
- For Ninja Shadow Clone, pick a waist-up or full-length photo with room on both sides, because the glowing copies appear to your left and right.

Ideas to try
- Make a 'powering up' clip from your own photo before a big match, race or exam, and caption it as AI-made.
- Post a 'power-up, power-down' pair: lightning here, then crumble away with the disintegration effect.
- Use the glowing eyes for a spooky profile video as part of the Halloween AI trend; if a friend is in it, get their OK first.
Frequently asked questions
Which app makes the lightning filter video with glowing eyes?
It is made in Ginly AI, an app for iPhone, iPad and Android. The glowing-eyes look comes from Thunder God in the Superhero Power Effects category, and the app turns your photo into the clip. Everything happens in the mobile app.
Is this a live camera lens like the lightning filters on social apps?
No. Ginly AI does not add lightning to your camera view. It creates a new video from a photo, which you can save to your gallery and share to any social app.
Can I add the lightning effect to a video I already have?
No. Ginly AI starts from a photo and makes a new clip; it does not edit existing videos or supply lightning overlays or PNG files. If you'd rather have rain than lightning, the AI rain effect also starts from one photo.
Is the lightning filter free?
There is a free way in: the download is free, starter credits may be added to new accounts, and a daily credit gift may be on offer. Every lightning clip costs credits, which otherwise come with weekly plans, and subscribers can buy credit packs on top. Offers can change.
What is the difference between Thunder God and Ninja Shadow Clone?
Both sit in Superhero Power Effects. In the Thunder God preview, the person stands still while the eyes glow and lightning spreads over the head and shoulders. In the Ninja Shadow Clone preview, the person makes a hand sign, light bursts behind them and glowing copies appear on both sides.
Can I put the lightning filter on a friend's photo?
Only with their permission. Stick to photos you have the right to use, never pass the clip off as real or use it to harass anyone, and mark it as AI when you share it. The app itself is meant for users 18 and over.
